live, have you had luck with Mechanical Turk? It's tempting, but I am wondering if you have issues with ESL?
I use college students to take detailed notes, not "transcriptions". It's better, frankly, as they helpfully edit out things like my daughters hollering for me in the background at my home office. (Useful for getting research participants to share personal info, less useful for consumers of the research.) I pay them $25/hr, and it takes them ~2x longer than the total interview length. I point them to transcription software, which makes things considerably easier. (http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/) Of course, I still have to deal with industry-specific terms, but using the same team I teach them over time. And it's often good for a laugh (e.g. "wizzy wig"). They highlight and put in time codes for any important words they don't understand. If you want contact info for the team I use (3 women who work together and review each other's work before sending to me), just holler. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
