Its been said on this list a few times, but Tom Limoncelli's "Practice of System and Network Administration" is standard reading for junior sysadmins ratcheting up their skillset. One typically reads that once they cross over from grunt work to more mature work. :) Overall, its just a well rounded way to think about the various facets of 'working well within IT'.
