Ugh. OK, I am not intending to re-open the any debate on the name of our organization. But I _will_ defend my statement because I have had the same experiences as Kent...though I don't have a LOPSA shirt, so my experiences are not as extensive or as varied. Particularly bothersome, the implication that I do not respect other "leagues" is completely false and unfounded.
Jesse, as to your examples: League of Women Voters -- is NOT a professional association (I'm using "association", here, in it's general meaning, not specifically requiring "Association" in the name.). Anti-Defamation League -- is NOT a professional association National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission -- is NOT a professional association. As noted in your own email, it is an accreditation agency. National League for Nursing -- _might_ be a professional association. I don't know because I haven't checked. Likewise, there are "Associations" that aren't professional associations. However, most of those that aren't, are not named "Association of Professional $job_name". That said, our organization is named "League of Professional System Administrators". Obviously if I am a member, then I accept the name of the organization. (Although honestly, other than a 40% discount on one O'Reilly book, I have received no direct benefit from my membership. Still, I maintain my membership in hopes that my dues help support the organization while it "figures out what it wants to be when it grows up.") I did not realize how tender the subject apparently was when I inserted my little attempt at humor. Had I known, I would have certainly not mentioned it. (Although it _does_ beg the question: _Why_ is it a tender subject? But if anyone else wants to discuss it [ I really don't ]...then they should probably start a new thread.)
