(I will be initiating a few "brainstorming" discussions[1] that follow
on the earlier thread, "Awakening the activist wing of LOPSA". It
seems to me to be more appropriate to continue these threads in the
"discuss" list than to request a new list, at least for now. For lack
of a better idea, I will add the pseudo-tag of '[metamorphosis]' to
the subject line should anyone wish to filter these threads
differently than the usual "discuss" messages.[2][3])

One of the issues that came out of the prior "Awakening..." thread was
the perception that we need to educate others about our profession.
There is already a potentially useful fork on publication of "white
papers". But I think it would be useful to generalize out even
further and pose the following question:

"What do you wish ${other_profession} knew about system administration?"

Ideally, limit ${other_profession} to a _specific_ profession, and one
which regularly interacts with system administrators on a professional
level, within a private or public organization. (I.e., "users" is not
a profession. "Managers" is probably too broad, for now. "Software
developers", "accountants", "legal counsel" and "sales
representatives" would all be good examples to discuss. If that is
too limiting, we can broaden it, later.)

[1] If a significant number of 'discuss' members, or anyone on the
Board asks me to stop, I will be happy to comply. My goal is to
*agitate* (M-W.com, 3b: "to stir up public discussion of"), but not to
*irritate*. Also, please note: I don't claim any particular
qualifications or expertise, other than the IT and system
administration experience that we all share. I am not a published
author or presenter. I'm not in any way affiliated with the LOPSA
Board. I'm just a guy that asks a lot of questions. I certainly hope
they are _good_ questions, but I make no presumptions or promises!

[2] I chose "metamorphosis" in reference to the biologic process. I
think in some ways LOPSA could still be described as being in a
"larval" state. LOPSA certainly has been visibly active, particularly
at LISA and other conferences. But I think, from the prior
"awakening" thread, that everyone is in agreement that we need to
figure out how to grow the organization beyond where it is, now,
toward what we hope it can be.

[3] I don't think it should be an issue, but please clue me in if this
'pseudo-tag' is going to adversely interfere with mailman, in any way.
Of course, adding a pseudo-tag to the subject line won't provide any
utility to digest subscribers...sorry.
