Being at the mercy of budgets, especially deficient state budgets, mean we run servers longer than we'd like. Servers run for 5 years, and generally spend another 1-5 in a twilight period of testing, development, or miscelanious servers where not having a service contract (or living off of the scrap-pile leavings) is not a problem. Now that we've entered the wonderful world of VMWare there will be motivation to keep the ESX cluster all at roughtly the same processor level. We'll see what that means for server change-outs in the coming years.
At my prior job we were kept things in service for 3.5 years to accomotate change-out processes on either end of the server life. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
