Windows definitely feels to me like a more push-oriented environment, where the 
vendor(s) push onto their victims ... uh ... customers ... whatever they want 
those ... customers ... to buy.

You get a certain amount of that in the various *nix communities, but I get the 
sense that it's a much more pull-oriented environment.
