Brandon, remember that what we call "Natural Sciences" were originally called "Natural Philosophy". In that spirit, I would call engineering physical philosophy, or perhaps better, methodological philosphy. Certainly how I fix things tends to partake of the philosophical more than rote learning. And I would agree that there's not a lot concerning how humans deal with the physical world that is not engineering. And maths.
