Hi all,
BayLISA, the Silicon Valley/SFBA sysadmin group, is having our next
meeting this coming Thursday... April 21, 2011, at 7:30pm. Our meetings
are free and open to the public. All sysadmin types or reasonable
facsimiles are invited to attend.
We're meeting at LinkedIN, at the same location as usual (2029 Stierlin
Ct, Mountain View, CA). We will be in a different room but the building
and entrance will be the same. Any updates or further details on the
location will be updated on www.baylisa.org and the Meetup site as soon as
possible, and on signage on the door the night of the event.
This month we're focusing on package management, with Phil Hollenback
of Yahoo and Jordan Sissel of Loggly talking. Phil gave a Practice &
Experience Paper at LISA '10 and will be talking about package
management at Yahoo on a recent major project he was involved in.
Jordan has written a multi-distribution package manager called "fpm"
("Effing Package Management") and will discuss why you should package
your own software and how fpm can help you with that.
To RSVP for this meeting (to help us plan the refreshments, provided
by Loggly), please use the appropriate link on
http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/16472354/ or send an email to
[email protected] and we'll manually count you.
Upcoming meetings will include Brendan Gregg talking about DTrace in May
(his new book is out on eBook format and in print), James T Nixon III
demonstrating FreeNAS 8 in June (along with some "short but cool" demos),
and a few others we're working on in the background. Check out
http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/ for the latest details, and feel free to
send any suggestions to me directly or to [email protected].
Thanks,
Robert Novak
BayLISA Secretary/Cheerleader
