Not sysadmin, but: I wiped out a month's work in my home directory, just 
writing 
code.  Some variation on the uses of rm(1) we're seeing here.  It was clearly 
irretrievable and clearly no one else's fault, so I didn't waste a lot of time 
in that direction.  But starting from scratch it only took me two days to 
re-write (having already done the thinking), and it actually came out better 
the 
second time.  Not that I recommend this method for software development 
generally, but it probably should happen more often than it does.
