Hi,
It sounds likely I'll be able to get my hands on a pair of good spec
servers for the purpose of virtualising some of our infrastructure.
Most of what we do doesn't suit VMs, but I have enough stuff and a few
possible further needs that VMs could handle (and finally getting rid of
some SPOFs)
It may just be fad time.. but I'll admit to being interested in using
OpenStack. After seeing the antics of VMWare over the past month
regarding licensing costs, and all the associated fun I'm reluctant to
look at something that includes a risk of suddenly facing large budget
impacts year-to-year. OpenStack seems to offer a good stack of
components, from being Hypervisor agnostic, through to both a good
command line client and web interface. Dell now have a reference
hardware solution for it with their own open-source tool called crowbar
that's based on Chef, which I'm taking to be a reasonable indication of
their confidence in the maturity of the product.
Is anyone using OpenStack? Got any good or bad experiences with it that
you'd care to share?
