Ages and ages ago (circa 2006), I thought it would be interesting to
sign up with the CA Cert folks. It was entertaining for about six
months, and then I forgot all about it, and moved on. Suddenly, out of
the blue, I found myself receiving email about the New and Improved web
site.
Whoa! Full stop! Right away, I fired off an email, asking to be removed
from the mailing list. That reply bounced, since they'd sent out an
email *before* they created the email address. Yep. I quote:
it was our mistake not to create the reply address prior to the mailing.
The address [email protected] is active since 2011-11-28 8:00 AM GMT.
I wrote a VERY cranky email to postmaster, enclosing the bounce, and
asking, yet again, to not receive further emails. Seemed reasonable to
me, but nope...
You received the message as you subscribed to CAcert services. The mail
is an important service announcement, so it was sent to all members of
CAcert.org. I forwarded your mail to support. A competent person will
get back to you for your request of terminating your membership.
Man, *that* sent me off on a google for a phone number (and yes, I
understand I'd have been calling Australia, but man, I hate being told
that I can't leave a group. It's not like I'm giving them money (thank
goodness), and I'm surely not a fan, especially now.
I had some blissful silence, but today I just got this clever missive.

Hi Lynda,
The dispute filing has been received, the Arbitration case number is:
a20111128.5
You can find the current state of this arbitration case at:
https://wiki.cacert.org/Arbitrations/a20111128.5
The search for a Case Manager and Arbitrator is still open.
As the next step a Case Manager or Arbitrator will contact you with a
initial mailing as soon he gets appointed to this case.
Due to the existing backlog I guess that this will need some time.
Wait. What? I've been assigned to arbitration? Yes, I've already sent
them an email, accusing them of insanity (and I meant every word), but
if anyone knows ANYTHING about convincing them that this is not the way
to win friends and influence people, I'd be grateful.
My forehead is already bloody from banging it against the wall, thanks.
