I have an Economics degree, and I got into system administration hands-on as a student assistant in college. Economics taught me that a graduate degree in Econ isn't economically viable. I'm currently earning a Masters in Building Construction to augment my IT facilities management duties. I get one free class per semester, working for a university. I'll finish next year, about 10 years after I started the program. When hiring sysadmins, I prefer experience over formal degrees because there are so few opportunities to study system administration, as opposed to programming or PC chip design.
