Another issue is how do you verify the person is who they say they are. Many companies have a list of "security questions" recorded for each employee: mother's maiden name, etc. Alternatively the helpdesk person can look up their name in an online org chart and have the employee recite who their manager is and possibly other trivia like that. If the person has a personal gmail account and can log into a friend's computer you can have them video chat with the helpdesk person who can verify that they look like the online org chart's photo of them.
