Thanks, Adam, particularly for the reference to git-annex.  While I
don't currently have use for such a solution, I still see it as both
very useful and certainly unorthodox.  And turns out I must have heard
of keeping a home directory under version control from Joey Hess,
first...then David Blank-Edelman, later:  I actually just pulled Linux
Journal Issue 101 off of my bookshelf.  :p

Also, perhaps another way to phrase the question would be, "What are
some clever hacks that you or others have employed with various VC
solutions, particularly beyond the obvious versioning of frequently
modified files such as configs, scripts, source code and
documentation?"
