Indeed.  I've just always before been on the side of "configuring the
syslog daemons", not "writing something which cares about formats when
emitting syslog records itself".

Basically, "they're all in use, and if you're writing software which
needs to care instead of going via a local syslog daemon, you need to
support writing them all".  Lucky me. ;)  The other side then is
choosing reasonable _defaults_.
