Back To You, Paul and the list, Let me first apologize for not including any references. I was in a hurry to make an appointment and hit send before thinking of providing a reference. Your point is understood, and I hope this added information is found to be helpful.
Thank you for providing the link to Hardware (dot) info . I have found another issue related with NIC and sleep mode on another board : Intel dp55wb NIC problems after waking from Windows sleep mode (win7 64-bit) Here is the link to this discussion : < http://communities.intel.com/thread/10568 > It seems there are several issues with sleep mode(s) regardless of operating of system and versions. The above was found when searching using the following term string - " Intel Haswell waking from S3 sleep mode problem ". Here is a Sleep mode issue with Vista : < https://www.vistax64.com/vista-hardware-devices/99423-wake-up-problem-after-s3-sleep.html > See more below ..... --- On Thu, 3/7/13, Paul Graydon <[email protected]> wrote: From: Paul Graydon <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [lopsa-discuss] Recent Report : Intel's Haswell processors have trouble with USB 3.0 interface To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, March 7, 2013, 5:52 PM Please at least give some sources in future. No one can make informed decisions (which appears to be your intent) based on rumours. So far I've found that the origin 'source' for any articles on it seems to be just one site and article, hardware.info: http://us.hardware.info/news/33716/usb-30-problems-for-intels-haswell In the article we've got a "trusted source" telling hardware.info a document exists, and the only corroboration is an internal document from an partner company that Hardware Info say they've seen. Intel have not yet made any kind of formal announcement that this bug exists that I can see, so any assertion that it even exists should probably be taken with a pinch of salt for the moment. From what Hardware.info claims is in the release to manufacturers: "In the document, Intel purportedly informs manufacturers that a system with Haswell inside, when waking from S3 sleep mode, will experience issues with devices connected through USB 3.0. For example this would result in blank pages displaying in Acrobat Reader PDFs or video playback stopping, rather than continuing. A quick fix would be to restart the failing application. For that reason, Intel apparently describes the problem only as a nuisance for end users, as there would be no serious consequences like data loss. The company indicates the issues will not impact the release of the Haswell processor series, but it is of the intention of resolving this problem in a future processor stepping. So it looks like Haswell will launch as planned, even if the company is still researching what other consequences this issue can possibly have." It doesn't seem all that significant a bug, at least on the surface. Paul =-=-=-=-= Here is a little more information added from this same report : In other words, it sounds like the first wave of Haswell systems to hit the market might be affected by this issue. If the problem is a recent discovery, that may be the only way around a delay. Intel has set a mid-year release time frame for Haswell's debut, and the desktop release is expected to take place on June 2 at the Computex trade show in Taipei. That would leave barely three months for a re-spin, validation, and enough shipments to ensure PC makers have sufficient volume for the launch—likely far too little time. Here is a link to this web reference and then the link to the added release information : < http://techreport.com/news/24441/report-intel-haswell-suffers-from-usb-3-0-issue > Then < http://techreport.com/news/24241/report-intel-haswell-to-launch-on-june-2 > Lastly, here is a report that was last February 2012 from bit-tech : < http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2012/02/17/haswell-lynx-point-chipset/1 > This reference seems to go into some detail and references an intel slide that provided this information from a China website : A slide allegedly leaked from an internal Intel presentation deck offers a first glimpse at the technology that will be found in the 8-Series chipsets for the upcoming Haswell processor generation. The slide, leaked by Chinese technology site "Zol.com.cn" , appears to be an official Intel creation. Detailed within is a chipset codenamed Lynx Point, designed to provide support to the next-generation Haswell processors due to be released in 2013. Lynx Point, the slide claims, will include integrated USB 3.0 support for up to six individual ports, six high-speed SATA 6Gb/s ports, and support for quad-read Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) devices. ---------- To learn more, go to the above link for further details. So from my surfing I seem to have found that there seems to be more of an issue related to Power related Sleep mode, and that this issue with Haswell is just the most recent and continuing problem with hardware related sleep mode. It would be interesting to see if others on the list see this same view. I hope that this helps provide more supported information to my posting. Intel defines the issue only as a nuisance for end users. I thought that this bit of news would be important to those considering this next-generation equipment in future purchases, and to make you all aware of this "nuisance".
