Beware: LANG is overriden by the various LC_* variables, in turn
overriden by LC_ALL.  If you absolutely need consistency above

Which circles back to it is much better/easier/more reliable/more consistent to use a "native" interface rather than trying to interface with a program and interpret the text output...
