There isn't a local chapter, and I have neither time nor interest in
setting one up. I'd consider participating in a similar "virtual"
community (although, *please* not in SL).

FWIW, this mailing list already existed, in a similar fashion, within a
Competing Organization. The vast majority of traffic transitioned from there to
here for political reasons, but had LOPSA not come along, all the traffic you
currently see (other than squabbling about LOPSA the organization itself) would
still be on that other organization's mailing list, I'm reasonably sure.
Although true, that is irrelevant to this discussion. Today, LOPSA's value is
in its mailing lists.
