Interesting issues on another group's list reminded me of the "Why LOPSA?" thread earlier. On the other list a local tech group needed some help with their e-mail server. The list group had spare cycles on their mail host and a volunteer aided the other tech group. It is nice to be associated with people who have well deserved good reputations.
The other question being bandied about is sharing remote hardware for some learning expertise. I could see LOPSA having shared hosts that members could access for specific training. For example, the other group is talking about OpenStack. While lots of folks have spare hardware it would be nice to have a shared environment we could use for learning. If people pitched in $25 or so I get we could have some serious hardware resources available. Not sure that would work for LOPSA but it did bring the discussion to mind. Shared resources are a staple of our trade.
