Winbind had to checksum stuff to derive ids if you didn't have the POSIX
schema set up, IIRC. Random changes of id were somewhat inevitable. (Also
if it was an old enough version, it didn't even try to use the POSIX schema
because at the time almost nobody had it installed and things tended to be
weird on the AD end if you set it up. These days it's both fixed and
installed into AD by default.)
