This sounds FUDdy... (1) "won't defrag" --- SuperDuper does not do a block level copy but file level, therefore it *will* defrag, unless the filesystem design is broken (in which case restoring from Time Machine as such will *also* not defrag). I have seen no evidence of this kind of design flaw in HFS+. (2) SuperDuper can do a verify and repair permissions before a backup.
