What: The Linux Foundation will be performing a migration of the ODL
Gerrit from it's current location in the Rackspace private cloud into a
new instance in AWS. At the same time the identity backend will be
transitioning from ODLID to LFID. We will also be taking the time to
perform upgrades of Gerrit, JIRA, Nexus, and Jenkins

When: Friday, November 24, 2017 @ 08:00 - 15:00 PT (16:00 - 22:00 UTC)

Why: This is the next step in our continuing efforts to improve support
for all of our projects. Moving ODL's Gerrit system to LFID will improve
the ability for collaboration across all LF hosted projects but also
gets us one step closer to turning off the ODLID system. We will also be
seeing a major upgrade in Gerrit from version 2.12.7 to 2.14.5.1 (or
greater if a newer one is released before we transition). We've been
holding on v2.12 for some time due to an outstanding communication issue
between newer Gerrit system and Jenkins that has finally been resolved.

Other systems will be getting an upgrade as we will be in a full CI
maintenance for this so it's a good opportunity.

Impact: Gerrit will be offline for some amount of this time.
Additionally, when Gerrit does come back online accounts will be in one
of two states:

1) We have mapping information of ODLID -> LFID and will be updating the
account database accordingly

2) We do not have the mapping information and will be locking the
account. Anyone that finds themselves in this state will need to contact
the ODL helpdesk [0] to update their account information.

Additionally, Jenkins will be in shutdown mode not able to run any jobs
during the maintenance window. JIRA and Nexus will be offline
temporarily during the restarts to those applications.

You may be asking why we're doing this in the middle of the week. The
answer is that given that many US companies have the day after
Thanksgiving off it means it's going to be one of the quietest days we
have in our environment. Additionally, we will be impacting only the
last half of the European Friday. China and India will be in the middle
of the Friday -> Saturday night. This leaves Canada as the primary
community work force that will be significantly impacted, I hope you
folks can enjoy a little bit of the US silliness that is Black Friday ;)

If folks have any questions, concerns or requests related to this please
let me know, or open a helpdesk [0] ticket related to it.

As per usual, announcements on the maintenance will be made to the lists
and in the #opendaylight Freenode IRC channel at the prior to the start
and at the conclusion of the maintenance.
