Alabama Department of Homeland Security Receives Google Enterprise
Award for Virtual Alabama
Watch Director Jim Walker (at right), Director of the Alabama
Department of Homeland Security discuss the award and how it will
impact emergency response and planning for the 63 counties in Alabama.
Director Walker will give the keynote address on Tuesday, October
16th at 9:00 a.m.
Dr. John Christy (at left), Univ. of Alabama-Huntsville, will speak
on Global Climate Change on October 17th at 9:00 a.m.
Christy comments that, "Climate has evolved from a topic dealt with
by a few bookish, pocket-protector scientists to a multi-billion
dollar industry that has begun to drive legislative policy on
Capitol Hill, to embolden high-profile environmental activists, to
capture academy awards, to produce legal action in federal courts
and to create anxiety among the largest industries (and thus
people) of the world. Once out of the scientific standards of
hypothesis testing, the subject has taken on a life of its own with
parallels to fervent religious movements (... believing is easier
than calculus). However, as Lord Kelvin said, "All Science is
Numbers."
Christy is nationally recognized for his work and sits on the
U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel for Global Climate Change.
