Hi folks,
I've a GIS and CMS question to pose. What open source CMS do folks use
to organize your project website(s) and web GIS applications?
We are currently using Plone as our CMS for project collaboration and
web GIS (standard MapServer + Postgres/PostGIS and PHP/mapscript front
end). GIS app integration relies on iframes (ugh).
In addition, we have not been able to get much user participation in
content creation from many of our project partners despite repeated user
training sessions etc. This might be a Plone thing (too complex?) or a
cultural issue (I'm not a web developer, why would should I participate
if some web guru can do it better?)
Are there alternatives that we should consider that could integrate
tighter with our existing MapServer apps and might address our user
complexity hesitance? We are aware of PrimaGIS for Plone but have not
gone beyond some limited initial testing.
I realize I haven't specified any of our other requirements, but I just
want a short list of alternatives to Plone with web GIS integration
potential. Thanks for any suggestions you might have...
Apologies for cross-postings, but wanting to get a diverse set of
responses...

Jesse,
If you have any questions about the web GIS stuff UNC's Ancient World
Mapping Center is doing at
http://pleiades.stoa.org/
let me know. We've integrated OpenLayers and Plone, which I think more
or less deprecates many uses of PrimaGIS (which will be making more and
more use of OpenLayers as well). If you absolutely have to develop your
web GIS in PHP, you should probably switch to a PHP CMS.
Cheers,
Sean
