Bob, Are you using the MS4W distribution, or did you install it yourself?
With MS4W, I can hit the MapServer executable with this URL: http://localhost/cgi-bin/mapserv.exe David. PS. For more help, I would suggest switching over to the mapserver-users or ms4w mailing list. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bob Pawley Sent: Tuesday, September 02, 2008 5:21 PM To: OSGeo Discussions Subject: Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Open Layers Thanks I am attempting to establish Mapserver. One of the tests to see that Mapserver is running is to query the version through the command line. This was successful. Another test is to send http://your.domain.name/cgi-bin/ms4/mapserv.exe . I've tried 'localhost', 'localhost.localdomain' and 'localhost.localdomain.apache' with no luck. Can someone suggest a solution. As you can see I'm new to this. I believe that Open Layers needs to talk to a WMS or WFS service, rather than directly executing SQL against a datatabase (PostGIS or otherwise). A pretty standard configuration is to run Geoserver (geoserver.org) w/ postgis. Mapserver (mapserver.gis.umn.edu) might be another option. -- Miles R.
