Tilottama,

The three applications that you've mention are good. You can also add uDig.

You'll find that most applications are starting to provide integration with
Grass for more robust analysis.

I suggest that you find a typical analysis work flow and try each one with the
same tasks and data, compare results and see what best suits your needs.

You will find comparisons and case studies out there, e.g. [1] and [2], however
they may not be concerned with the features that you find important.

It will pay you to start with a set of functionality that is important to you
and that you are evaluating against.

Hi,

I have been using ArcGIS for all my projects for over four years. I moved back
to India, my home country, this year, and have realized how unaffordable ArcGIS
is for most people in India. Therefore, it is time for me to start using the
available Opensource GIS software. I mostly use the Analysis tools, Spatial
analyst, Spatial statistics, Data Management tools in ArcGIS. Could you please
suggest which of the open source GIS software - GRASSgis, Quantum GIS, and
gvSIG, would provide me with similar tools to work with? Any kind of
suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

Tilottama
