Thank you Jachym for this summary. I want to make sure we send this summary after each OSGeo Board meeting to the entire community, so everyone can follow along and comment on the activities.
I want to highlight a couple of these points. The work being done to establish an OSGeo Labs network at institutions across the world is really wonderful. A big pat on the back for the dedication of the Education committee for championing this, and specifically the hard work of Suchith, Helena, CharlieS, and AnneG. You can see a list of the many nodes as well as the steps to add your own "Open Source Geospatial Education and Research Lab" node here: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Edu_current_initiatives On another topic, we're now approaching what seems to be the busiest event season ever for our many FOSS4G conferences around the world. I hope we can all try to get to one of the events and share our passion. Here is a glimpse of some of the events (if you notice I missed mentioning your regional event please do reply to this email with details): Buenos Aires (april) Bucharest (may) Minneapolis (may) Nottingham (sept) Tokyo/Osaka (nov) With the education momentum, the FOSS4G momentum, and the always impressive OSGeo-Live distribution, it's an exciting time for the OSGeo foundation. These 3 movements are signs of a stable community and signs that we're entering another important phase in our growth: training and outreach. It's due to the hard work of thousands of OSGeo community members in the last decade that we are now at a point where we can take a breath and focus on the users of our tools and make sure their experience is smooth. Thanks for listening. -jeff OSGeo President On 13-01-18 8:14 AM, Jachym Cepicky wrote: > Hi, > > short summary report from yesterdays IRC board meeting: > > Chair: jmckenna Attending: jachym, FrankW, jmkenna, aghisla, > mlucas wiki: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_Meeting_2013-01-17 > logs: http://irclogs.geoapt.com/osgeo/%23osgeo.2013-01-17.log > > Topics: > > 1) Face-to-Face Board meeting We've agreed, that it will be > difficult to organize physical face to face meeting of board > members at current time and that we go on with the virtual one.
