Dear All,

I am very happy and proud to share the excellent news that our good friend and 
philosopher Professor Maria Brovelli has won the prestigious Sol Katz Award 
2015[1] at the FOSS4G conference in Seoul. On behalf of "Geo for All" 
community[2]  we are  very happy and is great recognition for the many many 
years of her selfless contributions to Open Principles and education.

Maria has been working at the Politecnico di Milano since 1994, first as 
researcher, then as Associate Professor and finally as Full Professor. She is 
currently teaching Digital Cartography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 
and Internet GIS. In 1997, she started the Laboratory of Geomatics, placed at 
the Como Campus of the Politecnico di Milano and up to 2011 she has coordinated 
its activities as Head of the Lab. She has been involved in Politecnico 
governance by covering several service activities. Currently (since January 
2011) she is Vice Rector of Politecnico di Milano for the Como Campus. 

Maria is also charter member of OSGeo, a member of its Committee "Education and 
Curriculum", and is on the Advisory Board for the Geo For All initiative. She 
is member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Photogrammetry 
and Surveying (SIFET) and member of the Bulletin Editorial Board.  In 2010 she 
hosted the WebMGSevent in Como, an international workshop on 'Pervasive Web 
Mapping, Geoprocessing and Services'. Her details at
