Dear colleagues,

The H2020 WeObserve project has launched an Open Data Challenge
(https://www.weobserve.eu/marketplace/opendatachallenge/)!

The Challenge’s ultimate goal is to find new approaches and solutions to
respond to environmental challenges through open datasets, as well as to
produce applications and services and showcase citizen science data for public
benefit. The Challenge will focus on the following seven challenge themes:

1. Ecosystem monitoring: Phenology, biodiversity and land
cover;

2. Public infrastructure management – Soil Moisture and
Drainage, Flood Mapping;

3. Community-Based Disaster Management: Flood, Fire, Drought,
Heatwave Services, Landslide;

4. Regenerative food growing: yields, sustainable practices
and natural pest control;

5.                  Pollution monitoring and health: Water quality, air quality;

6.                  Engaging young people on open data and climate: Education;

7. Other: Innovative applications of WeObserve data e.g.
COVID19;

Registration will be open up to 15 of June 2020. Participants will be allocated
a mentor who will guide them and support them throughout the challenge.

The two winning individuals/teams will be awarded with €5,000 cash each.

Dear colleagues,

In the context of the Dubrovnik INSPIRE Hackathon, 3 challenges related to
citizen-science and environmental monitoring are taking place and involve the
following themes:

* Improve interoperability between methods for sharing in-situ and
citizen-sourced data // The focus lies on the use of
<https://www.ogc.org/standards/sensorthings> SensorThings API standard as well
as on developing and testing tools to provide combined visualization of data
coming from different sources. This involves also sharing of environmental
measurements coming from different IoT devices and in-situ monitoring sensor
networks.
* Integrating INSPIRE with Citizen Science and EO authentication systems
// The focus lies on improving accessibility to protected resources while also
enabling their direct consumption and utilisation by third party applications.
* Establish the connection of Citizen Observatories resources with
central catalogue// The challenge attempts to implement harvesters that will
enable ingestion of metadata of citizen science resources to a centralised
catalogue and eventually to GEOSS.

The hackathon is virtual and involves participants from all over the globe!

Feel free to register, join the teams and contribute!
