Hello OSGeo members,

I’m not sure whether this is an appropriate place or not to announce this, but
I thought that it might be of interest to some members. I have recently
released Whitebox Workflows Next Gen, WbW-NG. If you aren’t familiar with the
Whitebox, it is an open-source geospatial analysis platform with roots that go
back 25-years and broad analytical capabilities. WbW-NG is a complete re-write.
I have broken the previous monolithic architecture into a series independent
backend crates (https://crates.io/users/jblindsay) for projection
transformations (wbprojection), raster, vector, and lidar I/O (wbraster,
wbvector, wblidar), topology (wbtopology) and spatial statistics
(wbspatialstats). Each of these backend crates support the Whitebox OSS core,
which consists of about 750 analysis tools, with frontends for Python and R
scripting as well as a QGIS plugin (supports v3.x and v4.x). This most recent
iteration of Whitebox includes support for 19 raster and 12 vector data formats
and substantial improvements for vector data analysis, including network
analysis and linear referencing, and spatial statistics/geostats. I’ve also
strengthened the remote sensing capabilities, with an OBIA suite, SAR
processing capabilities and more.

Here is the Github repository, with code distributed under MIT/Apache 2:

We’re still in the soft-launch phase and so we welcome any feedback you may
have. Please report issues to the Github repo or email [email protected].
Happy GISing everyone!
