Yes you can run with 'indytube' turned off. You should be able to use
the vPIP javascript - give each video a 'vPIP' subject keyword. You
could of course upgrade to a new versions or switch entirely to
mv_embed, or new some other method to switch in the appropriate html for
the user's browser version/operating system, so that they can see the
video properly.

We generally use an Apache2+Squid+Plone setup, so that the squid
"reverse proxy" buffers the zope instance as much as possible.
I dont have exact figures of the highest load a plumi site has been able
to sustain.
