I've solved the missing icons issue. One thing that made the page that
big, were the kupu js files. When upgrading from plone 3, kupu remains the
default editor. I've changed the default editor to tinymce and removed
kupu.
Also, debugging on css and js files was on, which also accounted for some
of the size and requests. The front page is 851KB now.
