Ends up that the above is suitable for Plone 3 only. As described on
https://weblion.psu.edu/trac/weblion/wiki/Plone4DateFormat, I've added
file locales/en/LC_MESSAGES/plonelocales.po that contains the
date_format_long format without the timestamp.
