we've been adding Plone addons via buildout.I haven't experienced plugins
that should been avoided, however dependency issues very often occur and
you have to pin versions

Regarding the second question, I would suggest that you upload the videos
via ftp. You can check the manual -deprecated unfortunately- on
http://en.flossmanuals.net/plumi/ch017_uploading-via-ftp/
First make sure plone ftp is running (./bin/supervisorctl status should
output it running). Then open an ftp client, login to the server and start
uploading.

Videos uploaded via ftp get transcoded so html5 versions of videos are
produced (mp4 as well).I have only uploaded single video files and not
multiple videos at once, but would like to know once you test it. One last
thing, videos uploaded via ftp initially get the private state, so you'll
have to make them public.
