It's partly a function of the physical space, and partly of our
personalities/social skills.

In order for the meeting leader to acknowledge the people wanting to speak,
they have to be able to see everyone.  That would mean we couldn't meet in
the lounge anymore - and people love it there.

Speaking only when called on seems to me like it works best for
presentations, not an equal sharing of ideas .  So while frustrating, I
think our meetings are still functioning as intended. Everybody does get a
chance to talk, they just have to wait sometimes.

Having better (more courteous) meetings will happen as the group gets
better at it, not by setting strict rules in place.
