Last night it was lighting up and beeping and I could hear the lock click but was still unable to enter.

The reader was definitely working at the time -- beeping and making the appropriate light change at the wave moment. Didn't inspect the strike as I entered -- but once the door was open I closed it again and was able to let myself in via fob. Also had had a successful re-admission test on the way out.
