Great Report Nathan!
Thank you for being the lead on this and thanks to all the volunteers working to make this happen. It was amazing. Special thanks to Dave Curry for helping me get the Skull-o-tron, NES, etc. working properly and for charming the socks of a hundred or so wide-eyed kids. Huge thanks to Andrew, Fernando (and Tish and Neena) for letting us exhibit their game, GRYTH. "Huge hit" doesn't even come close to how well it was received. It's a perfect game for that environment. Simple to pick up, quick to get into, amazing sound track, multiplayer and not something people tend to camp on and hog for an hour straight. Props to Meako for the second XBOX controller. Having it made everything run smoother than a keyboard would have. I hope the battery charge lasts the week as it was used non-stop for two straight hours. Ben's uJoypad and NESChuck were equally popular. We had to limit people's playtime so everyone got a chance to try it. How kids that old know how to play Mario is beyond me?! Cannabalt and Sumo Topplers on the Skullotron were a hit too. Not as much opportunity for direct outreach as I would have liked. I did manage to have some good conversations with other presenters and artists, but it was tough to engage teachers, parents etc. through the throngs of kids playing with our stuff! If anyone is free tomorrow, Wednesday or Thursday between 11am and 2pm, please feel free to join us at the Franco Manitoban Cultural Centre. If today was any indication, we can keep a few more hands busy there the rest of the week. I'll send booth pics tomorrow, assuming I don't forget my camera again ;) -- Nathan T. Wild
