Greetings all, As some of you know I volunteered to organize the Skullspace electronics work bench on Tuesday. Progress has been kind of slow, but it is on its way.
(Please be advised that what follows may be a wall of text.) This wasn't meant to be the final organization of the parts nor an inventory, merely a stepping stone to usability. That said here is the breakdown on what I have been working towards (not in any particular order): #1.) Make sure all empty drawers have no label on the front (thus making their state somewhat obvious) #2.)Consolidate scattered components of the same type/value (ie. No more 3 drawers of 10k resistors) #3.) Move excess components into labeled bags (to be put in an extra parts drawer/bin) so that drawers can actually be opened without breaking things/causing parts explosions. #4.) Group component types into designated cabinets: resistors, capacitors, transistors, etc. #5.) Move the esoteric/exotic/ancient radio components into a zone/box/bag to be reexamined later perhaps for the purposes of sale to raise funds for Skullspace. #6.) Remove dust bunnies, insect carapaces etc. (Not a thorough cleaning, but something to help avoid unpleasant surprises) #7.) Consolidate free space, free cabinets etc. We can then move/rearrange them or 'fill with other things' as needed. With regards to resistors/capacitors: I have so far been working to arrange them in columns of base numbers and rows of multipliers.(for example going down a column: 2.2 22 220 2.2k 220k...) Additionally my initial plan was to arrange resistors into an E12 set with others in a misc cabinet, but I think we have some (1/4 to 1/3) of the E24 series as well.... So far the process has created a lot of empty drawers, a heck of a mess, and very little visual results, but i hope to get back in to Skullspace sometime this weekend and make some more substantial progress. As for a list of what we have, I did not intend to do an inventory of the parts, but the reorganization of them certainly helps facilitate that. If I have time I will try and create a list of the parts we have (but not their quantities). At some point we should look into setting up a partkeepr.org database and doing inventory (as we add/replace parts). Comments/thoughts/suggestions? Cheers, Dave Stewart
