Adam,

You would just burn a portable unit out in our space with the humidity and
temperatures.

I'm well aware they're no replacement for the building unit, but if one of the
mobile A/C units would be useful for spot cooling, Princess Auto had/has? them
on sale (refurb, I think) for $180.

ALL CON

The unit has been successfully re-loaded with Freon and is now producing 65
degree Air.

  * The unit is between 1.5 and 2.0 ton capacity which is a little bit
undersized for the Space (blame climate change).
  * It is aprox 30 years old (or slightly older).
  * The Compressor is on it's last legs (running "Hot" in the parlance of
HVAC specialist) and could seize up (not explode) anytime.
  * If warm air comes out of the A/C we can be assured that the Compressor
has failed, it's "Done" again in the parlance of the HVAC specialist)
  * If we get another "season" out of it we will be lucky.
  * Compressor replacement would run, ballpark $4500.00 assuming a Compressor
can be found which is compatible with our A/C unit.
  * It is unknown if Manitoba Hydro has grants available to replace our
system with more efficient A/C technology.
  * The installation of a new Compressor is complicated by the safety
requirement of lift rental. (blame new workplace safety and health rules)
  * A drape at the one front window and one back window would reduce the A/C
usage.
  * Requesting or arranging to install a window that opens at the back and
opening our front window at night would reduce A/C usage.
  * The best window on the back to replace with an opening window would be
the one closest to the elevator to ensure security, the other window is too
close to the fire escape.
  * Ducting (to increase the efficiency of the A/C unit running the length of
space would be, ballpark $2500.00

Today's service cost $ 438.44
