Hi everyone, As I am still not able to attend Tuesday meetings yet (.. .. ..), I'm kicking off this conversation in email:
General Topic - Summer Planning for SkullSpace Members & Friends - Who wants to do what? *Item the First:* Did you know that Winnipeg has hosted the International Cello Festival of Canada? More importantly, did you know it is being held again this summer ?!? I attended in 2011 - took a week of vacation from work, bought a festival pass, and soaked it all in. For this year's stunning line-up: http://internationalcellofestivalofcanada.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/cello-brochure-2014-web-version.pdf I am particularly looking forward to the "Wood-shred: a tribute to metal by four cellos" and "The Anatomy of Decision" concerts though there wasn't a concert in the 2011 festival where I wished I had stayed home that block. I am choosing between getting the full festival pass again this year or targeting a few concerts to save for other summer events (See below) but if one or more people wanted to join me for the Festival Pass Experience it wouldn't take much to talk me into it. *While on the musical riff:* We have several Folkies amongst us and Early Bird passes are only on sale for a few more days! I could do the full week camping or one-two days .. what is everyone planning to do Folk Fest? (even if it is to have an anti-Folk tech retreat in a mud-free bunker) *Back on (Tech) Topic:* There are too many Cons to go into detail or even list them all but for those who are skimming this and just haven't heard of them: DerbyCon, REcon, DefCon, Black Hat, SharkFest, WCISC, Shakacon, CRYPTO, Toorcon, HouSeCon, AnDevCon, RubyNation, Unite2014, BSides*, etc Who is going to what? If you are curious about one or more, ask around - there is likely a SkullSpace member or ten that has been. If more than one of us are going, let's toss money saved by *-pooling into the SkSp kitty .. and exploring the sewers of some random city is more fun with friends than solo, if one were to do that sort of thing. *Have things to sell?* Archwood Community Centre is having a Gym-Market on May 24, 8 am to 4 pm. I recommend SkullSpace rent a table ($10 per 6' table, like our classroom tables) and sell ourselves but we could also give out Live CD/DVDs, sell software / hardware / craftware that members have made, play Go with people who wander by, anything we would like to do* for $10 per table for the day. If you would like to rent a table for your own rummage-sale nature items and decide to leave unsold items there at the end of the day the items will be donated to MCC. For each of these topics, I look forward to hearing feedback from discussion at the meeting tonight. Assuming I live through Beavers tonight, I will be at the space asap after 19h. Happy hacking, - Richard *: while observing local laws, of course
