I prefer to see expenses split equitably, and have frequently indicated that I feel it is unwise to rely on charity.
If people are having problems paying $40 a month, they obviously have no spare cash to tie up buying gift certificates. If SkSp is not even worth $20/month to existing members, we're doing something horrifically wrong - considering our rent alone is 100x that, and there are additional expenses to boot.
