Situation is fixed. -confirmed our door fire pull station activates the building fire alarm -the alarm bell on our floor doesn't work, it just vibrates hopelessly (I call it the Justin bell). I will phone the landlord's office on Monday to arrange a fix. -we couldn't get the downstairs fire panel key to reset it/turn off the alarm - the landlord came but didn't actually have the correct key. I had turned off AC power but Pyrene said the bells can last up to 7 hours on battery. -Luckily, with Edwin shining a flashlight and Alex lightly pulling the door, I was able to slide a screwdriver into the panel's side and pull the connector off one battery, resetting the system. After turning AC back on, the dead-battery alarm was buzzing; I was able to get the right angle with the screwdriver to re-attach the connector to the battery. -unfortunately, something's wrong with the signal lines and I couldn't get any signal to unlock the card-access system upon alarm activation. I'll see if I can be there when the tech comes to replace the bell to ask him to check that aspect.
