After two years of owning Slimp3 I finally attempted to get it to use Itunes database. It was out of desperation - just purchased a mini ipod for me and a ipod shuffle for my wife (love them - another story). Anyway, everything seems to work fine. Slimp3 locates Itunes database fine, imports songs, playlist, everything. I essentially have everything consolidated into one area.
Question...I download a .99 song the other day. It plays fine in Itunes But slim wont play it. It’s the AAC protected format? I tried to convert to mp3 but it wouldn’t let me. Anyway to play downloaded/purchased songs from Itunes store?
That's because the file is protected from you.
You can rip the song to a CD and then rip it back as an MP3, or you can use an application called Hymn to try and crack the DRM. Either option is an explicit violation of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, punishable with up to $1 million in fines or 10 years in prison (http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf).
Or you can vote with your wallet; instead of buying from Apple, buy independent music from stores that don't use DRM, such as http://www.emusic.com, http://www.magnatune.com, or http://www.mp3tunes.com. You might also send Apple some feedback.
