I'm trying to install AlienBBC on MacOS X, using the very comprehensive
instructions provided by Dave Scott at mrtickle.

I've succesfully navigated two steps! Then I got to:

 Step 3. Use FinkCommander to download and install the following:

 lame
 madplay
 HTML::Parser

... and now I'm looking for some more assistance. FinkCommander is showing nothing for "lame"; it's got madplay, so that's OK; and it offers two packages "html-parser-pm560" and "html-parser-pm581". Am I missing something to get lame from FinkCommander? If not, what's the best way to get lame installed? And which of the two html-parser packages should I use?

That's because I was wrong about where to get lame. I think that if you look in the archives you will find someone has suggested a good place to get it - otherwise try Googling for "lame mac".

Madplay I think (not certain) is no longer needed. But are you using AlienBBC for SlimServer 5.4 or for 6, some of the requirements may differ.

Most likely you are using perl 5.8.1 (you should be able to check this), so the pm581 version of the parser is what you need. Again, I am not sure if this is now included.

There have been some significant changes since I first reported how I got AlienBBC working. For instance, I haven't used the transcoderless version, and I haven't got round to using it since the BBC changed their layout. But the general idea is still sound.
