When I turn on my computer in the morning, I have to wait 5 minutes or more before I can connect to the Internet, while SlimServer 5.4.0 (which comes on automatically) connects to my Squeezebox (located in another room) via a corded router. Otherwise I get repeated failed attempts to connect to the Internet. Once the connection between SlimServer and SB is made (and the correct time appears on SB), then I can connect to the Internet without problems.
Is this normal? And if so, is there a way of speeding this up, so I don't have to stare at my computer for 5 minutes before attempting to connect to the Internet?
You don't give much information about your setup. That does always help.
I would guess that this is a computer issue. Have you tried running your Web browser once the computer has fully started up?
Just as a comparison, I find that I get a failure if I try to run my email program as soon as my computer is woken up. But this failure only occurs if I try it during the few seconds before the time (which is obtained by an Internet time server) has updated.
Five minutes is absurdly long. I suspect that the computer is trying to make some remote connection that does not currently exist, and is keeping trying for a long time before it gives up.
