Sure there would. The squeezebox will recognize virtually all ir codes. Let's say the "menu" button on your remote currently has no squeezebox functionality. You can monitor the d_ir debugging output to see what hex codes are delivered when pressing the "menu" button. Then just edit the .ir and default.map files to make that button press accomplish what you want it to accomplish.
