My opinion -- return them both and wait for a SB2. If SB2 doesn't work for you can return it and go for the Roku since it seems to work better for you than SB1.

Before you do that though, try the recent nightlies for slimserver 6.0
(beta 2 if it's out by then) -- they've improved dramatically even in
the past few days. My server is less powerful than yours and it's
hovering at 1-2% cpu usage with two slimp3's going (no sb but SB2 on
the way). SB2 has a much larger buffer too so I can't imagine you'd
 get dropouts with it.

I've thought about the Squeezebox2. The deeper buffer is appealing. Maybe that would solve the problem. It's certainly something the Roku has already. The client side FLAC isn't a big deal for me. I figure if I'm having server load problems streaming AIFF, having it transcoded to FLAC will only increase the load. Though, I'm guessing mov123 is what is actually playing the music, and it only takes a few percent of the CPU. It's the perl thread, which I thought is what controlled the display and webpage that is the resource hog. The Roku does all of it's display client side, which I think makes the biggest difference. I don't think that has changed with the SB2, has it?
