I too used to have a pretty flawless set up with only very occasional drop
outs. I had my file server and Slimserver machine wired to my
adsl/router/firewall/hub and streamed wirelessly to my Squeezebox. Tested
signal strengths varied from 50% to 75%. 75% was definitely better than 50%!
However, now I too have moved and cannot manage any wired connections so the
file server, slimserver and Squeezebox are all independantly and wirelessly
connected to my adsl/router/firewall/hub. Signal strength in all cases is
above 70% (and the Squeezebox is 90%) but I get quite a few drop outs now
(one every 20 or 30 minutes or so, lasting for quite a few seconds at a
time). I have moved the wireless network from channel 11 to channel 13 to
achieve this level of drop outs, on any other channel it's considerably
worse.
:-(. This on XP.
Of course the drop outs may be due more to the interference in this tiny
village... I can see three other wireless networks via Netstumbler (none on
channel 13 though)... whereas in the Wired City (Brighton UK) there were
none nearby.
