(1) It still crashes slimserver whenever I press Now Playing more than once in succession

What font do you have selected for Softsqueeze (look in player preferences). The valid font's for Softsqueeze are standard, light and full.
Do you have any players synchronized?
Could you post the Softsqueeze debug with 'player' and 'javasound' debug options enabled in the Softsqueeze preferences.
And also, just to check, you are using the version of Softsqueeze supplied with the nightly. At the moment it is important to use the correct versions of Softsqueeze/Slimserver for everything to work ok.
