I have to report the same problem with SoftSqueeze. I have tried 6.0.0 and the 29-05-05 nightlies - on both occasions reinstalling SoftSqueeze. Then I completely unistalled SlimServer and reinstalled 6.0.0 and 29-05-5 (and SoftSqueeze) again.
I stil have a totally unresponsive SoftSqueeze. All buttons are being ignored, and it will not play at all.

Neil, what platform are you running Softsqueeze on?

Neil / Daniel, do you get any errors in the Softsqueeze console (last tab in the Softsqueeze preferences). If not could you enable 'player' and 'javasound' debug, then try and play a track. Could you post the debug.

What format music are you playing?

Trying to play an mp3, buttons all locked up as reported, and I get the following on the console

0 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - audg leftLvl=9 rightLvl=9
26 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - audg leftLvl=9 rightLvl=9
27 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - httpRequest=GET /stream.mp3?player=2f:48:63:76:16:fb HTTP/1.0
38 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - parsed strm: command=s format=109 crossfade=0 ipaddr=Daniel-Cohens-Computer port=9000 file=/stream.mp3?player=2f:48:63:76:16:fb authType=null authPassword=null autostart=1
41 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - connect: state 0
1141 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - status=STMc fullness=0 bytesRx=0 elapsedSeconds=0
1143 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - status=STMh fullness=0 bytesRx=0 elapsedSeconds=0

I also tried playing an aiff. The console then showed the last two lines of the above log.
